¿Qué es la cuota anual de asilo?

  • Según una nueva norma que entró en efecto el 1 de octubre de 2025, todas las personas con una solicitud de asilo afirmativa pendiente debe pagar $100 o $102 anualmente (sujeto a incrementos cada año).
  • Recientemente, el USCIS estableció como fecha límite el 29 de mayo de 2026 para el pago de la cuota a la mayoría de las personas con solicitudes de asilo pendientes.
  • Esto solo aplica a las personas con solicitudes de asilo afirmativas pendientes. Si su caso de asilo se encuentra en la corte judicial, esta fecha límite no aplica. Consulte con su abogado sobre el pago de la cuota.

¿Qué sucede si no paga la cuota anual de asilo a tiempo?

  • Si no paga antes del 29 de mayo de 2026 (o antes de la fecha límite indicada en su notificación, si es después del 29 de mayo), su solicitud será rechazada automáticamente, su permiso de trabajo quedará invalidado y, si no posee otro estatus migratorio, el gobierno iniciará su deportación.

Cómo verificar si debe pagar la cuota anual de asilo al USCIS:

  • Para verificar si debe pagar la cuota, visite este sitio web de pagos del USCIS. Ingrese su número A y el número de recibo de su solicitud de asilo.
    • Si debe pagar la cuota, el sitio web lo redirigirá a la siguiente página y verá un botón azul que dice “Pagar y enviar”.
    • Si no debe pagar la cuota, verá esta alerta en la parte superior de la página: “En este momento, no se debe pagar la cuota anual de asilo para este caso. El USCIS le enviará una notificación la primera vez que venza la cuota anual de asilo”.
  • El USCIS también debería enviarle una notificación con un plazo de 30 días para pagar la cuota anual de asilo. Sin embargo, algunas personas no han recibido ninguna notificación y solo se enteraron de que debían pagar la cuota al consultar el sitio web de pagos anuales del USCIS.
  • Si aún no debe pagar la cuota, es recomendable consultar el sitio web una vez por semana por si acaso.

Cómo pagar la cuota anual de asilo al USCIS:

  • Visite este sitio web de pagos del USCIS. Ingrese su número A y el número de recibo de su solicitud de asilo.
  • Si su caso está listo para el pago, el sitio web lo llevará a la siguiente página, donde verá un botón azul que dice “Pagar y enviar”. Haga clic en el botón.
  • Puede pagar la tarifa proporcionando la información de su tarjeta de crédito, tarjeta de débito o cuenta bancaria estadounidense al finalizar la solicitud en línea. Si no tiene tarjeta de crédito o débito, también puede comprar una tarjeta prepago en efectivo en muchas tiendas grandes. Asegúrese de tener saldo suficiente en la tarjeta para cubrir la tarifa.
  • Después de ingresar la información de su cuenta bancaria o tarjeta, verá una pantalla con un “ID de seguimiento de la agencia”. Guarde este número o tome una captura de pantalla.   • Si ya pagó la cuota anual de asilo una vez, probablemente deberá pagarla nuevamente cada año mientras su caso de asilo permanezca abierto.

URGENT (May 13, 2026): If you have a pending asylum case and have not yet paid your $100 or $102 fee (depending on when the fee notice was issued), you need to pay the fee before May 29, 2026.  If you don’t pay this fee, your asylum application will be automatically rejected, your work permit will become invalid, and if you have no other immigration status, the government will initiate your removal. Read below to learn more and confirm if you have paid the fee.

What is the Annual Asylum Fee?

  • Based on a new rule that went into effect on October 1, 2025, everyone who has a pending affirmative asylum application now has to pay $100 or $102 annually.
  • Recently, USCIS set a deadline that most people with pending asylum applications must pay the fee by May 29, 2026.
  • This only applies to individuals with pending affirmative asylum applications. If you have an asylum case in court, this deadline does not apply to you. Consult your attorney about paying the fee. 

What will happen if you do not pay the annual asylum fee on time:

  • If you do not pay before May 29, 2026 (or the due date on your notice if it is after that date) your application will be automatically rejected, your work permit will become invalid, and if you have no other immigration status, the government will initiate your removal. 

How to check if your annual asylum fee is due to USCIS: 

  • To check whether your fee is due, go to this USCIS payment website. Enter your A number and the receipt number from your asylum application receipt.
    • If your fee is due, the website should proceed to the next page, and you should see a blue “Pay and Submit” button. 
    • If your fee is not due, you should see this alert at the top of the page: “At this time, the Annual Asylum Fee payment is not due for this case. USCIS will issue a notice the first time the Annual Asylum Fee is due.”
  • USCIS is also supposed to send you a notice with a deadline to pay the annual asylum fee in 30 days. But some people have not received a notice, and only learned that their fee is due by checking the USCIS annual fee website. 
  • If your fee is not yet due, it is a good idea to check the website once a week just in case. 

How do I pay?

  • Go to this USCIS payment website.
  • Enter your A Number and the receipt number from your asylum application receipt.
  • If your case is ready for payment, the website should proceed to the next page, and you will see a blue “Pay and Submit” button. Click on the button.
  • You can pay the fee by providing your credit card, debit card, or U.S. bank account information at the end of the online application. If you do not have a credit or debit card, you can also use cash to buy a pre-paid card at many large stores. Be sure to leave enough money on the card to cover the fee.
  • After you enter your bank account or card information, next you should see a screen with an “Agency Tracking ID.” Save this number for your records now or take a screenshot. The Agency Tracking ID could be useful to prove you paid, and this is the only time it will be shown on the screen. It will not appear after you submit your payment.
  • Check the box at the bottom and click “Continue” to submit your payment. 
  • Once you have successfully submitted your payment, you should see a screen that says you successfully paid your annual asylum fee. 
  • USCIS says they will send a receipt either in your USCIS online account or by mail.
    • If you have not updated your address, you will not receive the receipt. We recommend you immediately file a change of address with USCIS. 
  • If you have already paid the annual asylum fee once, you will likely need to pay it again each year that your asylum case is still open.
